NMJv2 support single database for all sources
I am really digging deep as I am about ready to buy an A-300.

I am starting with music, personal video clips and photos.

Will the NMJv2 have one single database that integrates all my different media sources into a single display of the NMJ interface?

That is the power I am looking for. I am not interested in running the interface from an external device.

RE: NMJv2 support single database for all sources
If all of your different media are on a single share then yes they are all in one database. So, if they are all on the internal drive or a single network share then all is well.

Currently the NMJ does not support multiple shares, syabas has said that it is a feature they are hoping to implement (and the DB does seem as though it can support it) however it is not currently in the firmware. Having said that, if you wanted to get your hands dirty in the OS of the PCH there are ways to force it to use multiple shares.

Samsung PS50P96FD Plasma (ISF Calibrated), Sony BDP-S550, SkyHD, HDMI 4x2 Matrix, Synology 1511+ with DX510 25TB NAS, Onkyo 605 receiver, Kef Q Series speakers QED cables.
C200 & A210, A300 1.5TB Internal HDD in each.

Thanks Rom,

The manual sure makes it look like you can add more than one share. That isn't necessarily a problem, just not how I have my collection stored. I did see something about mklink in another post, so that fakes a single share essentially. But I didn't read into that as a database shortcoming. Is that what you might be referring to?

I have been thinking about keeping my files on attached SATA or NAS and then having my pc as the backup location. I don't have a collection of DVD's or BD's (yet) so I am not in a pinch for storage.

Can you invoke a NMJv2 "instance" for each separate source then? I don't mind having to switch NMJv2 sources per say. I can have a default load to say person video source ... and then close and load another for same music.

Thanks again

RE: NMJv2 support single database for all sources
Yes you can invoke NMJ at any location. It will store the database folder for that location at the same place provided it can write a folder there.

You can have as many database folders as you like and run each one seperately as soon as you enter a location where the player finds a database folder.

You can also do as you suggest combine all your location into one NMJ display but you have to use the tips/hints from users on the forum as the player cannot do it natively yet.
You can also filter each of your databases. So you can scan for just music at one location and just video at another. Or all. You can also include 'no.nmj' files at locations to stop things like covers being added as photos if you want.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

Thanks for your response.

That would work just fine, and the performance should be better with smaller databases.

I expect there is a more detailed section in this forum for NMJ documentation and individual tricks, I just haven't found them all yet...I'll keep trolling.

Have a look in the NMJ Guides subforum to this forum section. Also this forum section.

Plus you'll find the prefix NMJv2 and can filter all the NMJv1 threads out by p[ressing NMJv2. Then press say replies to order in terms of threads with most posts. Bear in mind dates of posts and firmwares/changes.
