Power light flashing.....
Hi guys. I just swapped my internal HDD for my Blu array Drive as I was trying to play Band Of Brothers and it kept getting stuck even though it played fine last time I watched it over a year ago. In fact my C200 constantly seems to struggle playing Blu Ray rips on the internal HDD.
Well I just turned it back on and it's seems to be buggered. The power light flashes between red and white and makes a clicking sound too. I read that it may be the PSU but all I did was change the drive, surely that won't have broken the PSU. I basically did a straight swap, removed the HDD and plugged the same cables in the Blu Ray drive. Am I missing something or is it broken? |

RE: Power light flashing.....
It could have. the PSU is a slow death the difference of the power pull on a different rail could have put it over the edge.

RE: Power light flashing.....
I'm not very familiar with different PSU, so will I be able to buy one from my local PC shop or is it unique to the Popcorn?

RE: Power light flashing.....
Its unique in the size. its a normal atx power supply but you wont find one that right size.

Oh. Shame :-(
Well I found the PSU on the Popcorn site so I'll guess I have to order one. Anyone have any idea on timescale to the UK? |

RE: Power light flashing.....
I've taken a look at my PSU and noticed there is yellow gunk everywhere. Is this just a glue or has something leaked?

RE: Power light flashing.....
that is glue, What you want to look for is the tops of the CAPS if they look bulged or any have a hole in them.

RE: Power light flashing.....
Hey again.
I just bought some replacement capacitors, took the whole thing to my brothers who's a whizz with this kinda thing and he said they had definitely blown. Said it should be easy to replace, if it wasn't for all the glue. Seriously, so badly made with all the glue, one might wonder whether it was done on purpose so when it did finally render itself useless I would have to buy another rather than replace the parts. Well it's not so much the parting with £30-£40 it's having to wait for the new part to be shipped to the UK. Hope it doesn't take too long, we have nothing to watch! |

RE: Power light flashing.....
Does anyone know how long it will take for the PSU to arrive tot he UK? Who can I ask?
![]() Also, in the meantime is it fine to use another power supply from a PC? Can I do any damage if it's of different voltage? And will it be easy to connect? I understand it probably won't fit in the unit but that's fine for now, but when I removed the other one, it was connected via a white Ethernet like connection, a wire and then of course to the motherboard. Will another PSU connect the same way? |

RE: Power light flashing.....
All it takes is a razor and you can scrap most of the yellow gunk away a lot here have replaced there own caps. And no you wont do damage and its plug and play with any atx supply voltage dont matter it can be a 1000watt psu it will only use what it needs.

RE: Power light flashing.....
Not sure if its possible but see if you can avoid UPS shipping. They currently add a flat "disbursement" fee of £11 to any items that attract VAT. The latter includes free replacement parts under warranty, which was a surprise to me. Still the VAT is only £3 odd, its the UPS fee that is exorbitant. Check with PCH Support first perhaps.

RE: Power light flashing.....
Thanks guys. Just borrowed a PSU from a buddy and I got it working. So it was definitely that.
As for removing the glue. I think it's almost impossible. Just tried with a Stanley knife and it barely budges. :-( |

RE: Power light flashing.....
The trick with the glue is get a good pair of wire snips and snip off chunks, use a serrated knife to saw bits of it and just pry it off.

RE: Power light flashing.....
Well the wife is off at the moment so i've told her she can have a go at it. I think however, that the order I placed should be dispatched soon.
