RE: Another Popcorn or Apple TV?
The only apple tv can be truly jail broken is v1, v2 is still tethered so if you restart it you have to connect to your pc again, v3 has not need jail broken yet nor does there exist a xbmc version for it and from research I've done they are struggling to find any exploit

@omertron there is a lot of species between troll and idiot....

They'll only charge me 120CHF (approx 120 USD) to diagnose the problem, and say the warranty is 1 year and that Syabas won't do anything. 120USD is a lot of money to pay to get very little in return. Consumer law should be on your side if you deal with the shop alone. Things may be complicated because you bought in another country - I'm not sure. From what I've read this shop is making Syabas look like the bad guy whilst taking your money and pretending to be your friend. Forget about warranty, I suggest you read up on where you stand according to the law of your land, when a fairly expensive device stops working after 13 months which most would agree is not fit for purpose. OR if you dont want the stress, just get the PSU repaired at a local electronics shop, OR order a replacement PSU from a European distributor AFTER you first check it is the PSU at fault by trying an old ATX PSU from another PC. If it is not the PSU, then go back to consumer law. Oversight: Jukebox | FeedTime: Automatic nzbs |

RE: Another Popcorn or Apple TV?
Lol ok I don't know anything about the Xtreamers & it was an idea (obviously a bad one lol)
Thanks Lordy, I have an old pc so I'm going to try taking it apart this evening & give it a go. I was told there is a fuse in the cable to plug the c200 in, however there doesn't appear to be. I did find a fuse just where the cable plugs into, a small glass fuse which is 2.5a & 250v, so I replaced it as it was knackered & it killed the new one. I've now left Syabas a few messages, by email, online support. & voicemail....no response from any of the methods? Is this normal? If the pc atx works, can I just leave it running with the popcorn or is there a technical reason that I shouldn't or can't? Thanks Nick PS. When the popcorn is plugged in there are no lights at all. No flashing on off button, or any sort of life... Would that tie in with it being the psu? Some reports seem to suggest it should still do that? |

RE: Another Popcorn or Apple TV?
A post on the popbox forum said they call people back but many are not leaving a number in the voicemails. Don't forget to give them a number

RE: Another Popcorn or Apple TV?
I said my number twice, and it's in my email.....
I've taken apart the pc & the motherboard connection is the same, however the PC ATX PSU has 20 cables whereas the popcorn only has 14 cables. Should I remove the others? How do I know if it is compatible? It's 300w....is that a problem? Thanks Nick |

RE: Another Popcorn or Apple TV?
My PSU failed a couple of fmonths ago and I bought this.
http://linitx.com/viewproduct.php?prodid=12635 I am not aware of a retailer in France but I assume there must be one somewhere There's no soldering. I plugged it into the motherboard inside the Popcorn (C-200) and there is already a usefule hole on the back of the popcorn to mount the connector for the PSU with 2 screws (I drilled out the 2 small holes for the screws). It powers the HDD as well but I dont have a DVD/Blueray drive. Result: popcorn working again. Hope this helps |

RE: Another Popcorn or Apple TV?
It sounds more like motherboard than PSU. PSU usually exhibits some form of power, flashing LED or clicking noises. Motherboard would exhibit nothing which is what the poster says he sees. Better get someone from support/service to examine it BEFORE spending money on a PSU that may not fix the problem.

The plug is the same shape. Just plug it in and your good to go.. No need to do anything complicated. Wattage is not an issue. Oversight: Jukebox | FeedTime: Automatic nzbs |

RE: Another Popcorn or Apple TV?
Hey,
Lordy - I've plugged the PC ATX in & it's working fine!! Woohoo!! I spoke with Richard at Noveltech in Germany, who was very helpful and said it was unusual to have no power at all, as usually it's the capacitors that go. I almost went and bought some yesterday, and was planning on how to change them this weekend, however it doesn't sound like that will be worthwhile. Thanks Smeghead, that looks good. I'm very tempted as I'm not sure I want much more to do its popcorn hour after the poor customer service from them and also the shop. I might leave the PC ATX running until I decide the best option. Thanks Chris, I'm so glad it's not the motherboard. |
