I don't see how Syabas could still stay in business if they dont. Even with NMJ V2 its still not XBMC and people bring up this fact all the time. If you have other companies offering media players with XBMC and Syabas sticks with their current offerings, they are going to get squashed. This is of course assuming that XBMC on the SMP8672 works like its supposed to. |

RE: New Sigmas SOCs
It could be dualboot:-
1. Option 1 NMJ 2. Option 2 XBMC With only Option 1 and the dualboot system the areas supported by PCH. The new range of Sigma chips are low cost and I can't see anything but a replacement for the Popbox type lower end plug'n'play for it. The new range top end chip has the same processing power as the current PCH used chip, the 8647. So a cheap player with only NMJ, or a dualboot player if the make it a more expensive product. Questions like 10bit support can be found by looking at the Sigma chip specs. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

And no 10bit is still not on any hardware decoders and more then likely wont be for a very long time. Remember download content is a niche market. these same chips are used in bluray players, tv's, game consoles so until commercial stuff goes 10bit I doubt we will see any hardware decoding done by a chip. |

RE: New Sigmas SOCs
So we will see lots of 4 employee companies appearing offering XBMC. Like we see with the Realtek turnkey chips. Seems that Sigma have given up developing their own code and palmed it off to the community?
With PCH and it's overheads they have to be able to offer more than XBMC and 4 employee companies. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

It seems to me like it supports XBMC as a choice but is not going to be required. Syabas should be able to use the SDK to do what they currently do plus some. If they want it, XBMC is there as a turnkey option, if they dont, they dont use it. That's what I would expect to see. |

RE: New Sigmas SOCs
The press release was very clear that xbmc was a free turnkey solution. Where it wasn't clear is what after that.. I'm under the impression that sigma did a quick port for bragging rights and not so sure what options anyone will see to update the hardware on their own. They kind of did that for android and never really finished it.
I for one can't wait until everyone who thinks xbmc is what they want but for some reason never bothered setting up xbmc on their own goes away. |

RE: New Sigmas SOCs
Same here, XBMC reminds me of Windows Media Centre and its not something I have bothered with recently.
