A300: crashes in USB slave, Weird file sizes.
My new one week old A300 is having some issues. I am not sure whose fault is it though. I have 2 Tb Samsung EcoGreen F4 HDD formatted by popcorn. I put some music in it to test NMJ. NMJ could not create cover art for NMJ wall. When A300 was connected to PC via USB slave ext2 drivers crashed along with my computer and I noticed some weird big files which wasn't there before. I mean 2 Gb mp3 files (original about 4-5 Mb) and 20 Mb cover art which is normally 20 kB. Every time I am trying to access these files ext2 drivers/PC crashes. A300 cannot play these files, kinda freezes. I was wondering what is it: A300, HDD, or just a case of data corruption? Can I just reformat HDD and start over or RMA drive, A300?

I would start over, what windows version do you have and what drivers did you use. ext drivers for windows can be hit or miss. I would reformat maybe transfer a few mp3 files over samba or ftp, rather then using slave mode, try to build NMJ see if it works if it works then go from there.

RE: A300: crashes in USB slave, Weird file sizes.
Most likely data corruption. Reformat and start over should fix it, but you can try to repair it with a program called GParted.
Download from http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php and make a bootable CD or DVD.
You can then connect the A300 as slave to a PC and then boot the PC from the CD/DVD. When it's booted you will see GParted started and ready to use. Select the partition that is corrupted and then start the repair/scan from the "Check" option in the "Partition" menu. Wait until ready, and your disk should be ok again. (It takes some time, but will finish eventually)

I have Windows 7 Ultimate. I installed ext2fsd drivers. Seems like it is recommended around here. Are there any alternatives?
Do I reformat within A300?

RE: A300: crashes in USB slave, Weird file sizes.
There is also ext2ifs.

Make sure that you have UAC disabled and that you do not have the A series connected via ethernet etc. The PC must be able to see the A series as an external HDD.

does UAC matter because it seems to be working fine otherwise?

No, it used to stop USB Slave transfers when the 100 series and USB Slave first appeared.

update:
I tried to reformat HDD with popcorn but unsuccessful. GParted did the trick. Day 1 post format so far so good.

PS: what causes data corruption like that?
