C200 Audio settings not working ???

Hello, I connected my C200 directly to the TV having sold my AV Receiver and waiting for a new one.

(Anyone tried this by the way ?)

So my TV being a 60 inch idiot does not devode DTS or Dolby HD.

So I played a couple of movies (MKV/DTSHD-MA) and I had forgotten that I had the C200 set to "passthrough" the audio. Which means bitstreaming, right ?

Well, I could still hear the sound !!! Which means that the C200 was doing the decoding by itself all along. Because since my new tv doesn't support it, I should not have heard audio

Is this a bug ?

The C200 can't decode the HD audio either, but there is supposed to be an AC3 audio track embedded in the HD audio track. I don't know exactly how it works. Maybe the C200 asks your TV if it can decode the HD track, and if the answer is no it outputs the AC3 track instead?

That is because the NMT reads the capabilities of the connected "sink". It is a part of the "handshaking".
It changes (overrules) the audiosetting (for HDMI only) to downmix if necessary.

This is possible because the 200/300 series SystemOnChip has 3 audio DSP's.
The audiosettings are global. It allows having AC3 sent to SPDIF (optical/coax) and at the same time downmix to HDMI.

So if you use a TV connected to HDMI you can leave everything on "passthrough"

This is like Sci-Fi to me. How can the two machines communicate like this ? Anyone can confirm this ?

No you cant see it happen, But what you are looking for is called EDID when hdmi talk to each other they pass there EDID information along think of it as a spreadsheet of what the device can handle is sent to the device asking and the device asking then tries to use those settings.
