2pin connector on the "motherboard"
Hi everyone,

I noticed that my A300 is getting quite warm (due to the hard drive), and I thought about installing a cooling system.

I noticed on the motherboard a 2 pin connector, is it a power supplier of some kind, or a reset function?

Thanks!

The case is the heatsink, it should be warm if it's transfering heat away from the parts correctly.

no clue about the 2 pin connector. it very well could be for a cpu fan. maybe a multimeter can tell if you it's 5V power.

Best to go with a 5400rpm HDD. Make sure that you have good airflow around the unit for the hot air from the top of the unit to dissipate.

I have my TB's of archived material on a NAS. For the players I use a small SSD for my daily automated TV downloads.

A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI
CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407

why do you have the pch doing extra work if you have the nas that can do it?

RE: 2pin connector on the "motherboard"
I would recommend to use so called "Green" HDD's. Like Seagate Barracuda Green or WD Caviar Green. They draw less energy than regular HDD's especially fast 7200 RPM drives. HDD max transfer speed is not a bottleneck in this system, but thermal footprint can be critical issue.

RE: 2pin connector on the "motherboard"
Thanks for your advices, but after trying a 5400RPM hard drive, I wasn't quite happy.

I will buy a 2pin cooler and keep you advised if it works.

Cheers!

Because I like to test out community developments like dognzb etc. and the NMT uses less power than my PC.
I keep my NAS to archive/must keep stuff and my NMT easy watching/deletable stuff.

Yes, the J3 is used to connect to a 12V fan.
