A-200 video quality
The answer is probably on the forum somewhere, so I apologise for asking silly questions. I have had an A-200 for some time, but gave up on it due to low quality video playback. I have archived much of my DVD collection on my QNAP NAS in ISO format, but when I replay them on my 42" LDC TV they are very poor quality and grainy. Is this due to the format I am using?
The fan on my unit has always been very noisy. Is this a common complaint? Will the upgraded chassis cure this? I am a complete novice, so please be gentle with the technical language. Many thanks in advance GT |

RE: A-200 video quality
The A200 has great picture quality - my bluray rips look fantastic!
1. How are you connecting the A200 to the TV 2. What video setting have you got the A200 on 3. Can you give an example of a file (DVD, avi etc.) and run it through mediainfo to give the results? PchTrakt | YAMJ wiki

First thing you need to do is go into settings->video and make sure your not on AUTO video output. You should set the highest your tv input can handle. auto is a recovery mode and usually results in lower than your tv can handle output. Quote:The fan on my unit has always been very noisy. Is this a common complaint? Will the upgraded chassis cure this? people have had a lot of different experience with this. Some found the fan popped out a little during shipping and clicking it back into place made it better. Others find it really annoying loud no matter what and others like myself couldn't hear it at all.. Some people solved this by removing that fan and changing the chipset heatsink to a fan. I wouldn't have a link as that case hasn't been sold for some time now.. the updated a210 replacement case is completely fanless so to answer your question, yes it would make a difference. It's more than just taking the fan out, the case itself is the heatsink so all the heat transfers from the chips to the case to offer more surface area to cool everything does. |

RE: A-200 video quality
If you are upscaling SD DVD to 1080p on your TV then it will look grainy.
If you are watching HD then it will look great. Having the two to compare, SD vs HD, really does show you two things:- 1. How much HD is an improvement on SD 2. How even the Sigma chips which are recongised for the best picture quality do not do well with upscaling SD material. That's why a media player with Sigma chip with VXP processing for SD material would be a top player in my opinion. As a test try setting the player to just SD PAL or NTSC in Video Output and your TV upscaling OFF so that you watch SD material at SD to see if you prefer this to the upscaled versions.
