RE: A-300 Network problems?
I've checked this and there were 2 entries listed. The primary entry was the IP of the router and the secondary entry was in the 2xx range. I've modified the secondary entry to also reflect the IP of the router.

RE: A-300 Network problems?
you may need to reboot for it to fully kick in.

RE: A-300 Network problems?
Thanks for the tip. I've rebooted everything in the loop, and as usually, things are working again (for the moment). I will probably still have the unit until the end of the day, so I can see if things are still working when I get home from work.

RE: A-300 Network problems?
re-reading the rest of this thread, does any part of your network turn off nightly? maybe a nas that sleeps or a router that reboots on a schedule? It might be the pch bad at handling a share it thinks is mounted but not able to remount it.

RE: A-300 Network problems?
Indeed. There are a number of devices that turn off nightly. Laptop and Desktop turns off. The Router is scheduled to reboot daily at 3:30am to re-new my external IP at the least intrusive moment (otherwise it runs on a 36h lease). The Server also has a scheduled reboot but that is only weekly. If anything I'm assuming it is the Router that is part of the problem in this case.

RE: A-300 Network problems?
I would agree, I think the router rebooting is causing the loss of the share.. pch was never really good at recovering from that type of situation which they really need to work on/I would call it a bug..
best solution I can think of in this case is to get the pch to also reboot at the same time or shortly after the router. |

RE: A-300 Network problems?
A PCH reboot does sound like a possible solution, although I'm a little bit sceptical considering it doesn't help once the problem pops up.
Unfortunately I won't have time to test this considering the unit will probably be packed for sale tonight. |

RE: A-300 Network problems?
Why mention that you are selling it? Are you going to try media player number three on your network?
Why ask for help, you are wasting their time and they could be helping someone who is going to use the product. You've now had two players suffer the same network problems and yet your off to player number 3? I'm confused? However hostile it does come across ![]() I mention that I'm selling it because it is the reason that I will not be able to try out the reboot strategy. Why ask for help: 1) I started this thread before I decided to sell. 2) I do not consider it waisted time if I, or anyone else reading, can learn something from the discussion (whether I'm selling or not). 3) I'm not forcing anyone to reply here. If you consider this thread a waste of your time please ignore it. The same goes for any other member on this site and as a matter of fact any other person on the internet. I initially assumed the WDTVLive had a problem with its network browsing and that purchasing a player with which I could manually configure the shares would solve my problems. That is why I bought a PCH. This ended up not being the case, sadly enough. Does that mean the PCH is a bad product? No, not at all (not that I ever said or implied it). I have tried countless things to get the network working with the WDTVLive, to the extent where I became despondent with the entire affair, gave up and used it as a USB player. Seeing as I'm experiencing similar issues with the PCH, which I was unable to solve for the WDTVLive, I'm deciding to get rid of the device while I can still get most of my money back. As for PlayerNumber3, to clear up any confusion you might have: I will be upgrading my Server to a XBMC capable setup. It is already in my lounge and this way I can avoid the networking problems all together. While it still does not solve the core problem I find it a better long term solution than being stuck without content, having to revert to USB or requiring a reboot of my server (which takes it sweet time to do so btw) when I want to watch a movie. |

RE: A-300 Network problems?
I don't think there was anything in my post that was hostile. I simply asked a question and stated that I was confused.
I am still confused by your post/posts, you are avoiding the network issue and abandoning media players to go with HTPC rather than fixing the network problems. As far as a learning thread for others what does the thread show to help others? If you can't solve something ignore it and jump to another player or media server? It's all superfluous now though isn't it, you have decided to jump to the next idea. I'm very glad to hear that your post was not hostile. You had me worried there for a second! If only "fixing the network problems" were that simple. As I've mentioned I've tried various different things to solve the problems previously. The simple fact remains, the only device that had a problem with the network at the time was the WDTVLive and the only device that currently has a problem with the network is the PCH. All other devices on the network function reliably and consistently. Regardless, if you have any suggestions for "fixing the network problems" I'm all ears ![]() Things that one could learn from this thread: Quote:Couple things. This is a master browser issue on your network with one machine not giving out the shares of the other machines. make sure your windows 7 master doesnt have a firewall blocking out the requests as that would be number one suspect. But you mention manually adding shares which is fine if your windows 7 is a static ip if it is. Go under setup network share click add and instead of hitting browse fill out the information with tthe remote hostname use IP, share name is sharename and user name and password that avoids needing to use master browser. Quote:What I mean is the master browser controls every share on the network and sends out the workgroup list. Since you are not even getting the workgroup list it means there is an issue with it either firewall blocking the requests or something else. Quote:First thing I would do is reboot everything. One by one with your windows 7 machine being the first. that can bring master browser back. If you are running windows stock firewall it should not block it only things like norton secruity or mcafee and things would. Quote:do you have 2 dns servers listed in the pch? there are some bugs that appear when there is only one. you can use the same dns server twice to get around them if your house setup only uses 1. Quote:I would agree, I think the router rebooting is causing the loss of the share.. pch was never really good at recovering from that type of situation which they really need to work on/I would call it a bug..Take your pick. There are some very helpful suggestions in this discussion that might help someone with similar problems. As far as ignoring the problem and jumping to the next idea goes: Yes, guilty as charged, both with the PCH and now with XBMC. I could not fix the problems when I had the WDTVLive so I tried to get around it by purchasing a PCH. This did not solve my problems so now I'm taking slightly more drastic measures by moving over to XBMC. It is not that I'm not willing to try and solve the problem. I have tried. I've spent many many hours trying to solve this. Unfortunately for me, I have not been able to solve it, thus I'm making a plan. At the end of the day, I just want to sit back, relax and enjoy my movies
