opendns also supports the geodns which sites like youtube use.. it allows you via just using their dns servers to get an optimal speed server in your area. google dns also supports this which is why I recommend using google dns if opendns isn't working.

This is a thread I started with common 200 series things, how to fix them, etc.. http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...?tid=62337

Same as some others here: Using DHCP and have no Internet connection after update and factory reset, but I do have LAN connectivity.
Have to set PCH to manual IP to gain Internet acess.

When you set the volume of the PCH (which is more an output signal than a volume) above 0, you may exceed the level needed by your receicer which will send your speakers a square signal instead of a sinusoidal one, commonly named distortion. Your speakers won't like it and may be damaged or broken (burned coil).

Back onto Auto IP now but the A200 refuses to use/fails internet name resolution with the DHCP assigned internal windows based DNS server (forwarders setup to my ISP DNS servers, naturally).
For resolution to work, I have to manually assign DNS servers under configure IP and if I assign my internal ones, again the PCH refuses to function with them. I'm therefore forced to assign the OpenDNS ones for now.
So what's up, why's the PCH refusing to work with Windows and so many router DNS setups? The last firmware did not have this problem. confused

There is dns changes since the last firmware. All these problems were actually found and fixed in the c200 beta. not sure why they don't appear to have made it into the a200 version of the firmware.

the problems are actually rather simple, although I'm not sure about the one your experiencing to be honest. It was a lot of quirks with the network setup script and wanting to move to open dns defaults which was discovered in beta to not always work with older routers.

To summarize them:
- you need 2 dns servers listed or parts of the pch may not have working dns. server 2 missing usually means things in flash like youtube or app market itself won't work. 1 missing usually means things like nmj scanning, ntp time lookup, etc doesn't function.

- many routers and some providers don't like opendns's multicast dns stuff. so if you get your house dns+open dns you can see again parts of the player not work where others do. then you have situations where both aren't working.

In the fixes on the c200 RC2 release, these are fixed.

I'm not really sure why your experiencing problems unless your dhcp setup is passing over only 1 dns server. You can setup the pch to be dhcp with manual dns servers. sometimes just putting in your single dns server for both servers is enough to make it happy.

I downloaded the firmware a couple of days back and I'm having a few small issues:
  • Using the iplayer app the system occasionally crashes and I have to restart. I don't have a great WiFi signal but it does report 79% signal strength.
  • Why does it show 79% WiFi strength (which sounds pretty reasonable) but then take forever to download info. Is there a better way of scoring the signal strength?
  • On the web services screen I can't move the cursor up (when on the top item) to get to the last item in the list. I could do this before.
  • The internal hard drive has been renamed from SATA_DISK to SATA_DISK_1. This isn't a problem but it confused me why this happened.
The firmware is quite usable but the occasional crash due to poor WiFi strength is annoying. I'll freely admit I had problems playing "iplayer" and "TED talks" before but previously this just resulted in a lot of stuttering. It's a shame there isn't a "cache" mode where it pulls the whole file before playing or even an adjustable buffer so that any stuttering becomes less of an issue. I do have another wifi router on order so perhaps this issue will disappear for me.

Mike you'll always have problems using web streaming if you use wireless. Best chance is to limit it to SD if you can but remember that 79% of a poor signal is nto going to give you good performance. 100% may not be enouogh as not only do you have to have the required speed but you also cannot drop any packets.

strength isn't really a good indicator of quality. Wireless has speed steps also. You could have 79% signal for a 1mbps connection which may not be fast enough for what your playing.. Look on your router or access point status list to get a full picture of how fast your connected and the signal strength.

Yes I did (all to default), the sound stays on +0, I follow the thread. PHC wil not change the volume botton. I try servial *
IP fixing after the new firmware I press power and Eject, PHC is rebooting. Wen PCH is UP IP is correctly from DHCP, I change to static. Works good. DNS correctly
NFS(only not with TCPIP) ar good working with de synology DS212+ not network problems

Video's ar playing not, strubbeling (PCH hapering). With the older firmware not problem wil playing video. (same directory)
Firmware not 100% good working

Thanks for commitment

Upgraded to the latest firmware following the instructions and now it will not play back any of the videos recorded with MythTV. UPnP works in that I can browse to them, but I get a message of "Could not play video" on any I try. This worked fine in the previous firmware. Is it possibly a setting I must change since I reset to factory default?
