Need ideas Ethernet port dead
So long story short my A-110 has been humming along for years. Has always had an internal 1.5TB hard drive only loaded with movies.

Just recently our home was struck with lightning. Lost my Linksys router and cable modem.

So I replaced everything and now I can't access the popcorn. Checked the port and Ethernet cord. Both good. As soon as I unhook the Ethernet cable and plug in my laptop or XBox 360 no issues. So I no its not the cord or network.

Stopped all of the Apps running on the Popcorn and restarted still nothing. I believe the lightning strike took out the Ethernet port. The unit still works as it turns on and we watch all of the existing movies on the unit.

So I'm wondering if there is another way to add movies to the unit and update the YAMJ?

Thanks..

USB stick or disk?
Using the filemode button on the remote you can copy the folder/file from USB to the internal HDD.

PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10
13 NTFS USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A300, 3 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB

The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box

RE: Need ideas Ethernet port dead
you'd probably need to tether it (usb slave) to your computer for a yamj update.. You can copy the files at the same time. you might need to tweak your yamj config a little for it.

Also consider it's age, you might want to start researching a replacement. I had my first a110 recent die, 1 more showing signs of getting near, and there's some devs who have also experienced the same. Don't forget weather related damage is probably covered under insurance.

Thanks for the reply's. Already searching for whats best for a replacement. Are all the bugs worked out of the C300 or am I better off with an A300? I just started researching lastnight between the two. Do both of these units run YAMJ?

I know I purchased my A110 very early on and remember having several bugs firmware wise until they fixed them. Then it ran awesome!

RE: Need ideas Ethernet port dead
The 200s and 300s have had a similar dev cycle where things are bad and then get better. They both haven't been as bad as the 110 started out as and the 300s with the exception of a couple features I thought was the most stable first release of a player yet.

I'd say the big differences from the 110 to the 300 is HD audio, bluray support, more speed, the new flash system (but it's flash only), the app market which isn't all that thrilling depending on what your looking for. html5 is coming soon but that's for webapps only (like the apps you find in tvs). NMJ (sysabas's jukebox) is built in.

The A300 vs C300 is really just C300 being larger case, rf and ir remote (comes with rf), and up to 2 internal drives. It's also a certified bluray player so you can put in an bluray drive and play original discs. Most blurays in iso or ripped do work full menus on the a300.

something to note is the popbox v8 which is the little sister to the a300. No internal drives, no nmt, no nmj, no gig, the same otherwise comes with a smaller remote no # buttons. It tends to get the 300 series updates first, like it already has html5 webapps. Some quirks with it as it is a different chip that's slower. Questionable if it can really play the full bitrate blurays without stuttering. great little unit otherwise but I'm not a bluray/disc rip user. IIRC I read somewhere for one of the trade shows that it's outselling all other syabas units combined.

YAMJ Question is answered here: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...?tid=60166

Somethign to note, on the popcorn hour website it shows 3 upcoming tradeshows... To me, that means something new and big is coming.. Syabas generally doesn't preannounce where they will be.

RE: Need ideas Ethernet port dead
accident thank you for the detailed response! I never play original Blue ray discs. All I primarily use is MKV files for the most part. No music or web apps. I also will not be streaming. I'm looking for a very reliable player that will hold a larger hard drive. The bigger the better like 3TB or so.

So are you suggesting I wait for a little bit to see what is new on the horizon from Syabas? Might be worth it to wait but then again I have to wait thru the Dev cycle again...

Thanks for the advice again...

RE: Need ideas Ethernet port dead
trash the device if it gets too anoying ^^ (A1x0 is very old now)

OR

i have some network to usb device that tunnels USB ports for Printer and every thing else!

I use it with some USB HDD, and yes it's slower but still a good solution for a poor mans nas ^^ ( " DIGITUS DN-13009 " 42€ on amazon)

then it goes like this:

popcorn with USB HDD interface->usb Cable->Network USB Hub->Network Cable (shared as Port to PC) in my case this is slow as you need some driver on your pc to "map" the network hub
