[300] Customizing A-300 for corporate use

Hi,

Is it possible (even with just minor hacking) to achieve the following with the A-300:

1. Use custom images for the screen saver images?
2. A custom script option to start the unit into a screen other than the normal home screen? Like starting into NMJ or an App?

Some background: we are a Popcorn Hour reseller and we pushing the product now also into commercial/corporate/industrial markets apart from the normal end-user market. It packs the punch to thrive in this market but it occasionally will need this minor customizations to it

That is what the S-300 S-210 models are for is business use no need to hack an A300

1) i'm not sure if it's been added to the 300 yet.

2) I know what you want is in the plans for the future but right now it's not. I would use your reseller channels to talk with syabas to see what they can do about this. I'm sure they would like to sell more players also, could speed up their plans in this area from a "nice option" to a "new channel for sales"

The s210 is just a signage product, sounds like he wants the player interaction and nmj which it doesn't have.

We selling the S-300 but just for signage applications.... I know the product and not required for this application.

Hospitality groups want to offer for example, their high end customers each a media player in their rooms to watch whatever they want - not pay per view, just free to watch whatever they make available. We suggested the A-300 over other media player brands and we won the contract based on the PCH's track record. It competed against the Dune and other prominent players.

So, to get back to my request... I've been snooping around the core files via telnet session and in theory I believe the unit can be hacked, but I need an expert on linux here in the forums to help!!

Screensaver: The mounted folder that holds the screensaver files is mounted as read only. How can i get that mounted as read-write? I was thinking that doing that will allow you to just overwrite the screensaver jpg images with customer's logo to solve the screensaver request.

Then, the other request form customer was booting it straight into NMJ after a power cycle... Could be just perhaps an entry in the boot up config files, maybe?

Anyone can offer input would be greatful?

Your not going to pull off the screen saving without modding the firmware itself.

Why is talking to syabas not an option? These are not only features they said would come in the future, but very simple to add to firmware and you have a brand new market you'll be buying lots of players for.

Pitty... that modding firmware will be the only way. Thought there may be a shorter faster route to accomplishing this, but i guess not.

1. Can we change the screen saver images on the A-300 to display custom images of customer, for example the customer’s business logo ?

The 100/200 is easlily customisable in the manner you describe. It was said that the 300 firmware would open up with the likes of html5 etc. and customisation would be possible.

I spoke to the engineers/software designers, not the usual sales people...

I guess no future plans for anything based on Syabas response.
