C-300’s display of TrueHD/DTS-HD info reveals oddly low bitrates?
In attempting to guarantee that my receivers are properly decoding and outputting TrueHD and DTS-HD tracks streamed from the C-300, I have noticed that the PCH’s info display seems to announce bitrates that are substantially lower than those for the track in question. (My two receivers--used interchangeably--are the Denon 1612 and the Denon 2313CI.)

Here’s an example, using an untouched rip of my “Shine a Light” Blu-ray disc (the rip is being made available to the C-300 locally, via USB connection): While tsMuxer tells me that the peak bitrate of the TrueHD track is 5148kbps (and that the core is 640kbps), the C-300’s info display has the track running at 640kpbs (and 48kHz). Meantime, while tsMuxer announces the DTS-HD track as offering 1536Kbps (core + MLP data), the C-300 pegs it at 640kpbs (and 192kHz, for what that’s worth).

Apologies in advance for any newbie-like misunderstanding of some of the basics here. I’ve been scouring the NMJ forum and still have some key questions about this important and complicated stuff.

In a shell, I guess I’m wondering whether the C-300’s info display of “640” is correct for some reason that one of you can explain to me, or whether “640” is in fact a warning to me that I’m not getting the most out of the TrueHD and/or DTS-HD tracks—even though the Denon 2313CI, for example, does display “Dolby HD” or “DTS” on its face (and not much else, alas, which is one of my biggest frustrations with the recent line of Denon amps).

I have made sure not to connect my non-compliant EIKI projector to the C-300 via HDMI for fear of causing handshake issues across the board; instead the EIKI is safely connected to the C-300 via component video. So, too, for audio purposes, the HDMI connection from the C-300 to the Denon amp is direct—no switchers or other such middlemen involved.

Thanks in advance for your patience with a newbie who’s trying to understand and get the most out of his beloved new C-300.

Sincerely,

hildy

RE: C-300’s display of TrueHD/DTS-HD info reveals oddly low bitrates?
More then likely the info can only show bitrate of the core track even though its sending out dts-hd/truehd to the avr, The info display is not very accurate and should not be taken as real world numbers.

If your avr is telling you its geting dts-hd or truehd then its getting that.

From the Firmware Release notes
Known Issues
- BD switching audio track is still not stable
This mainly is effecting DTS HD Master on Blue Ray file playback.
My C300 refuses to play any DTS HD Master sound tracks. It does play Dolby True HD.
I think you maybe confusing the Bit Rates (640 or 1536) with the Sample Rate (48Khz,96Khz,192Khz)
