UMC setup
(08-17-2011 10:56 PM)CRiSP Wrote:  UMC works in two steps:
  1. First, you scan all your libraries for movie & series files. This scanning detects the files, and then the information from online sources such as IMDB, TVDB, TheMovieDB, ... is scraped and inserted in the database.
  2. The next step is that you 'create a skin' (which, now I come to think of it, sounds confusing). This generates a package you can then start on your A200 device.

Very briefly said:
  • UMC does not need to be installed; it just needs to be unpacked and it is ready to run. For Windows systems, it is recommended not to use the system drive for installing (unpacking) and running UMC.
  • Starting UMC will make it enter the system tray by default. Doubleclick on it to open the Media Manager (where you can see which movies are in your collection). Right-click and select 'Settings' to configure UMC.
  • Configuration of UMC is done in four steps:
    • Definition of the libraries to scan
    • Skin configuration
    • Scraper & language configuration
    • Finetuning of plugin settings to match your library structure
  • Libraries are defined in the 'library' section. Press the 'plus' sign to add a new library. Most important is that you select the proper type (movies/series) and that you construct the proper PCH path; this is very similar to the way YAMJ paths are constructed.
  • Then configure the skin settings. This is done in the Plugins / Skins / UMC Skin Creator settings (click on the UMC Skin Creator name next to the checkmark to open the plugin description, documentation and settings). The default skin folder is the 'resources/skins' subfolder in your UMC installation directory. The only skin available today is the "ReVamp" skin so choose that one. Then configure the output folder (which is where the package you have to copy to your A200 will be created).
  • Next step is to configure your language settings. This is done under the Plugin / Scraper configuration. You can define up to four languages there, and you must add the appropriate scraper plugins for every language. This can be very easy: just "EN" as the primary language, with IMDB as the scraper... or you can make complex configurations with multiple languages and multiple scraper plugins.
  • If you use XML/NFO files (the ones from YAMJ or XBMC work also with UMC), then do not forget to enable the 'Scene NFO identifier' under the Plugins / Identifier configuration.
  • After that is finished, save the settings and open the media manager. Press the big magnifying glass button to start the scan of the libraries you defined. This will take a time, but once the scan is finished, you should see your movies in the 'Manage' tab.

At the moment, there are still some important open bugs for version 2.1.0 (which was supposed to be bugfree -- that didn't happen Big Grin). However, with some patience and some messing around (first try on a small part of your movies), it's easy to get it working.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions.

BR,

Crisp

Hello all and thank you for the help!
First off has anything that Crisp posted last year above changed?

I have a home network with 2 Win7 pro machines and an A300 that serves movies to my Denon Receiver. I currently have 5 shares setup which I can’t access at the same time on the A300 which has led me to UMC. If there is a better solution than UMC to combine all my shares into one movie wall on the A300 please let me know.

I have installed UMC on my main computer and have successfully added all shares to the library and can open the trees under the UMC settings Library window and see the movies folders located in each share; however when starting the scan I can only scan the movies located on the Share that is located localy (on the same computer as UMC). Once it moves on to the shares located on my other computer I get a Java error stating permission errors. Any help with this would be appreciated.

I have installed the NMJ apps on a 8gig thumb drive and can see the A300 in my network but cannot open the A300 and browse the files on the thumb drive. Do I need to start any particular apps for this to work like the “UPnP” app?

Thanks again for the help.

RE: UMC setup
Ok whether it was rebooting everything or it just took time for the shares to get permission I don't know but I have now successfully scanned all my shares and created a skin.

Do I move the entire UMC folder over to the root of the Thumb drive or just the Folders and file inside (ie folders cgi, database, opt, pics, skins, and file startFlash.phf) ?

I still cannot access my A300 thumb from my network so I'm going to try shutting the PCH off and installing the files with the thumb on my Main computer then reinstalling and booting the PCH back up.
Any thought on what I need to do to get access to the thumb through my network?

RE: UMC setup
ok every thing is working now except some movies will not download correct info and even though I unlock them in UMC and drop the art work in manually it just reverts back to having no art work after the save.

Second issue is although I can see my whole movie database on the A300 through the frontend selecting play is not working. Below is the directory info from my settings folder file "umc-config[wizard].xml" the umc-config.xml file seems to be default with no directory settings.

<pc_dir>\\SEANS-PC\Media G</pc_dir>
<pch_dir>/opt/sybhttpd/localhost.drives/NETWORK_SHARE//SEANS-PC/Media G</pch_dir>

Here is a pic of my UMC Libray path I had to enter in the PCH path to the share as there was no options in the dropdown if you guys could help me get this right I think ill be up and running.
