A-300 easy questions?
Hi,
I currently have a A-200 and love it but recently added a NAS to my house on a gigabit network, how does the gigabit feature work on this? I know there were issues with the A-200, I do have a trendnet gigabit switch. Also I noticed the ship date on the popcorn hour website is Aug 30th and those come from over sea's? These are currently on amazon and Fulfilled by Amazon and be to my house in 3 days, are the ones on amazon legit and have mfr warranty's? |

RE: A-300 easy questions?
you still wont get gigabit speed why do you need gig speed 100mbit is enough for any video. so if you are playing the videos form your nas no need for gige on the pch.

RE: A-300 easy questions?
There's not really an issue on the a200, it can be quirky and picky with network gear but you can get it to be the full speed that the sigma chipset can handle. the a300 is similar max speed so don't expect it to be suddenly faster. With a nas it doesn't really matter because even 10/100 can stream reliable.
If it's Popcorn Hour selling them it's the same as buying direct just gettin git from amazon. I do see a second reseller with a couple units, them I would probably avoid because I never heard of only the best rated and when you use a reseller, they handle the hardware repair during the warranty period and I don't see a way to contact them. |

I'm also interested in the network speed if i have to copy something from the network to the local drive on the A-300. |

RE: A-300 easy questions?
you are a little off. the 200 series can get around 200mbit which is 20MB/s then 300 series around 280mbit, not much difference there is no real reason to upgrade unless something you really want.

I'm actually not looking to upgrade but add another unit to the house. Despite a few quarks I've used other brands including HiMedia and Popcorn hours are still the best playback and audio and at the end of the day that's what i care about especially sense I just got a new 70" sharp aquas LED 240hz TV which is what I want the A-300 for , I was just curious if the compatibility issues with the gigabit were fixed or if i was still limited to 100mbit, its not a make or break on the decision to buy i just like to know what im getting.

RE: A-300 easy questions?
If you have a NAS you dont need to worry about the PCH being gigabit only the nas and your router/switch
I have a NAS I transfer at around 60meg a sec which from what i read is much better than what transfering to an internal HDD on the PCH is anyway hopefully you get some fast speeds |

RE: A-300 easy questions?
I think there is some confusion here I want to try to clear up..
It doesn't matter how many players you have in the house, they will each stream under 100mbps so if you have to setup the pch to 10/100 for your switch it's not a problem. Now if your multiple players play a video at the same exact time, then your NAS needs to be able to handle over 100mbps. It sounds like your nas is connected at gig and working fine with speeds. You'll have no trouble with your multiple player playback assuming your drive choice and nas is up to the task (and it sounds like it is). This is why I tend to reply to "getting my first nas threads" with a warning to not undersize your nas. the smallest low cost nas's may only be able to handle 2 players but once you have 2, it's usually not long until you have 3 or 4 especially if your a family and start looking at bedrooms. |

And capable of being upgraded to the 10gigabit standard. My switch is also more then overkill as well as my wiring, what i underestimate is a full untouched BD rom at 45gigs+ streaming to a player that has known network speed issues. |
