Buying new HDD
Hi!
I have PCH-100, I decided to turn it into a "Time Capsule" so I can backup my Mac.
Seems fine, but I have a 300 GB IDE now, not enough for everything.
I'm thinking to upgrade the HDD to SATA, more specifically this one:
Hitachi 1TB, 7200rpm, 32MB, Sata II, Deskstar 7K1000.C
Checked google, found about this:
networkedmediatank.com/wiki/index.php/HDD_Compatibility_A-100/A-110
Obviously it isn't listed there, but... and older model is: 7K1000.B
I'm thinking of using one of those IDE-SATA adapters (don't know how I'm going to fit it in there, but will figure something out).
Since the model isn't the same but is very similar to a compatible model, is it worth to give a shot?
Costs about 150$ here, no other HDD, that is at least similar to any listed HDD, isn't sold here, don't want to really waste money if it is a complete failure, could not find anything wrong about this HDD, maybe I'm missing something?
Oh, and what is the limit of max capacity?
Found that A-110 has 2TB limit.

RE: Buying new HDD
I wouldn't use a 7200 rpm drive. They run too hot.
Try to find a "green" 5400 rpm drive.
2TB max.

RE: Buying new HDD
I have noticed that they run hot.
I'm not very happy about the write speed on NMT, so probably want more RPM.
Seagate 1TB, 5900rpm, 32MB, Sata II, Barracuda Green
Also this one is available, never have used 5.9k before, probably is a lot quieter.
What I don't understand is why some HDDs don't work, never had a problem like this on a PC.
Also I don't know how much I'm risking, the compatibility list is small, hard to understand how often does a fail happen.

That Seagate should be fine.

RE: Buying new HDD
Yes it will work for Netflix and it has 4GB on it.
Although I would find it tough to not play just games on it lol and
you can't use the 20GB HDD on it, only 250GB or 320GB.
