Cry for HELP! A300 Win 7 Home Premium Samba Share
I simply can not make Samba Share work with Windows 7 Home Premium!!!
My set-up: A-300 has 2 HDDs, WD Elements/My_Passport connected via USB. A300 connected through WIFI to D-Link DR600 Router. Laptop running Win 7 Home Premium connected to the Router via WIFI. Both A300 and the Laptop appear under WORKGROUP on PCH. From my Laptop I can successfully ping both the A300 and the Router. I can see the A300 and also map / access the drives - but not under Samba i.e. When I mapped the drives on my office Laptop running Win XP Professional it clearly said 'My_Passport on Samba Share (A300) X:' but on my Home Laptop with Win 7 Home Premium it just Maps them as 'My_Passport A300 X:' i.e. without Samba Share. I can not use my office Laptop as it is configured on office Domain and does not appear under WORKGROUP in PCH (appears separately when I Browse Share - it shows under office Domain called CRB). 1) I Have Done everything that WIKI says for Win 7 Networking except that there is no secpol.msc: in Win 7 Home Premium. 2) I also surfed the net and found following suggestion to make Home Premium work with Samba: --- Quote --- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Lsa and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Lsa under those 2 keys, add the following Value (or modify it if it already exists) Type : 32-bit DWORD Value Name : LmCompatibilityLevel Value: 1 then your Windows 7 will communicate with SAMBA or previous versions of Windows Share without problem. --- Un quote --- 3) In Windows Firewall Made sure Printer/File Sharing in enabled for Private Network. 4) Even tried by Disabling the Firewall. 5) Tried the LANScan Utility and it showed that both the A300 and the Laptop were under WORKGROUP. 6) Tried the 'Windows Share Manager' and it showed that permission under Users was not correct - allowed it to fix registry to Allow all users access to the shares. 7) Also uninstalled "Windows Live sing-in Assistant' and all other Windows Live stuff. Should I disable Windows Security Essentials and then Windows Defender - but if I do this then the Laptop will be totally exposed. NOW I AM TOTALLY LOST! HAS ANYONE MADE WIN 7 HOME PREMIUM WORK WITH SAMBA SHARE? IF SO KINDLY HELP ME. When you've created the shared folder on the PC, the next step you want to do is create a "network share" (you do this in Settings) on the A300 that points to the share on the PC. I assume it's somewhere there that you fail, but you have not told us how. Quote:My set-up:As long as you can map the A300 then you are using samba. Whatever your PC choose to call it is not important. You only need to create a share, set permissions, and then it's ready to go. No I don't use Win7, still using Vista. |

Check these WIUKI pages out:
http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/i...work_Share http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/i...h_Windows7 Try using static internal ips: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/i..._Static_IP Then tell us what it is that is not working? I have two PC's both running W7 Ultimate without any problems. Thanks gents,
Issue was resolved by setting proper permissions for folder access in WIN 7 Home Premium.
