Internal CF solution issue!
Hi,
Some information: I've bought an IDE to CF female adapter: Ebay Link And a IDE male/male adapter: Ebay Link I use a legacy CF card Transcend 1go 45x (bought 3-4years ago) and and power adapter for the IDE to CF adapter. My problem: PCH doesn't detect any drive and the IDE led (blue one) still light up. I've tested:
Any idea? I'm doing something wrong? Thank's for help! 'xcuse my English I'm French! How to: Setup link to your shares for Jukebox |

RE: Internal CF solution issue!
I've had similar problems, and the reports I've read indicate that it has to do with whether the CF card identifies as fixed or removable. On a linux system, I could not even find a way to check this.
After trying multiple adapters and cards, I gave up, and instead cannibalized a 2.5" drive from my laptop (replacing it with an 8gb cf card), and am happy with the results. The laptop drive is nearly silent. Good luck with it, and I'm curious to see what people post in response to get it working, but I've yet to see any definitive test for whether or not some card+adapter will work in the PCH short of trying it. And if it doesn't work, I haven't seen info on debugging. |

RE: Internal CF solution issue!
Two key things ive found:-
1) The ONLY card that i have seen working is this one:- http://www.transcendusa.com/Products/Mod...2&LangNo=0 Notice the DMA mode0-4 compatibility and the dual channel spec. 2) The ebay 40pin gender adapter doesn't appear to work. I have this one:- 1 x 40 way (0.1") pitch DiskOnModule M/M Converter 40/44 male/male converter (DT0000M00R071P10) @ GBP 4.00 each (+ GBP 0.70 tax) http://www.milesie.co.uk/shop/asp/produc...roduct=677 A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

RE: Internal CF solution issue!
Thank's for your feedback!
Since the adapter + card is working on x86 motherboard, when you talk about a "working" card imply that PCH is less accepting than an X86 architecture? Any clues about finding if my card is fixed/removable volume? If i boutgh a "fixed" CF Card, it will do the trick with all IDE/CF adapter? And last but not least, how a IDE male/male adapter could not working? it's just metal, no hardware, no software? 'xcuse my English I'm French! How to: Setup link to your shares for Jukebox |

RE: Internal CF solution issue!
The male male isnt working because you have to "twist" each pair. Read the pin numbers an you understand. I put a male-male to the end of a ide-cable and then twisted each pair at the next connector.
My working IDE-CF adapter comes from http://www.pcengines.ch/cflash.htm My working CF card is "Sandisk ultra II 2.0 Gb" PCH-A100 (beta fw) + PCH-C200 Streaming from ReadyNas (llink and nfs) Sony 40-x3500 TV |

RE: Internal CF solution issue!
I had an IDE cable where you could easily disconnect the contact. Inside its like a small fork for each cable. Just lift out the cable pair-vise and twist the pair a half turn, continue until all 20 pairs are done...

I have a similar thread going regarding using the same IDE coupler to try and hookup a standard IDE cable to the mainboard so I can connect potentially 2 IDE devices. The same advice was given as to twisting each pair of the IDE header. Here is a link to oddball's images on what this looks like. |

RE: Internal CF solution issue!
Ebay one doesnt work you have to have to one from milesie or 2xebay ones with a short cable in between. Its due to pin alignment.

RE: Internal CF solution issue!
I ordered this one:-
1 x 40 way (0.1") pitch DiskOnModule M/M Converter 40/44 male/male converter (DT0000M00R071P10) It is the top one of the two to pick from. It is 40 pin to 40 pin. The remaining 4 pins if you think about it are the power connections from the PCH motherboard to the CF adapter which also has a 4pin power socket. You also need a female molex to floppy HD power lead. I got mine from a PC PSU I had lying around a few spare power leads. You connect the PCH power cable that comes in the PCH box to the PCH motherboard. The molex end you connect to with a new lead which needs a floppy power connector. A google search of DT0000M00R071P10 discovered more suppliers:- http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=D...arch&meta= A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

RE: Internal CF solution issue!
I'm running a Seagate ST1 microdrive in my PCH, no probs with it, however not using that cf-ide adapter, i have one with male pins.
A note though, CF cards are not designed for continuous writing, so depending what your using it for in the PCH, its life may be very short. Take a look for microdrives on ebay, you can pick up 4 or 5GB refurbished/reclaimed ST1's like I'm using for $10 - $20 and being a hdd, they wont have a problem with constant writing. |

RE: Internal CF solution issue!
Sounds like a good alternative are they noisy, obviously they are more noisy than a CF card but how do they compare to a laptop HDD.
