used scandisk utility: pch seems dead
Today I was in the middle of transfering a file to the HDD on my PCH A110 (ftp from dos) when it stopped working (I was on the laptop and I think turned off wifi by error). Reconnected, I somehow could not delete the small upload file.

So I rebooted the PCH, and the HDD was no longe visible.. after a couple reboots, it somehow reappeared. What a relief..

Back on the laptop, I deleted the partial upload on the pch HDD, started uploading again but it was going so slow that after a while I stopped the upload thinking something was wrong.
Rebooted the PCH.. and no HDD anymore.

Looked around, found a thread linking to the scandisk announcement http://www.networkedmediatank.com/announ...php?aid=24

Gave it a shot.. screen when black after I selected "Disable NMT".
I have rebooted the box countless time, with HDD, without HDD, with usb stick, without usb stick.. but nothing happens anymore, looks like the pch is simply dead: hdd does not spin, little orange light on. that's all.
What are my options ?
Disk is a 1 TB that was crammed with videos and I like very much my pch Sad

update

Having a 2nd (refurbished) PCH A110, I tried the hdd in that one: no problem with the hdd - so for now the HDD has migrated to the 2nd PCH, and that one took the place in the living room (but now wife is unhappy as she can't watch her own series upstairs.. oops)

So, on to try and revice the dying PCH:
Tried running it with the power supply of the 2nd PCH, no improvement
Tried the recovering steps discribed here: http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...p?tid=8193 and got the files from PCH site.
Booting with the USB stick in front plug, then in the back plug.. nothing happens either way, including if the jumper is placed as suggested.

one thing I noticed: my usb stick comes with a little light - on the laptop it gives a light when connected.
on the pch, in both front and back usb plug:no light
Is this normal or yet another sign that the pch is dead ?

Chris - wondering if I should just not give up and get my hands on a 2nd hand A-200..

Anybody with an idea ?
The orange light is on, no sign of any activity whatsoever, the cooling columns are getting hot.. that's all folks..

I am actively looking for a 2nd hand A110 but wouldn't mind reviving that one, even as a hobby Smile
Thanks

I believe the PCH has a serial port (UART0) inside on TTL levels.
Have you tried to get a prompt through the console/follow what
happens if you monitor that port?

Greetz,

Peter.

Uh.. I understand some of those words after doing a big of googling..
Looking at my open pch, I do not know where the serial port is hiding, and probably would not know how to go forward without step by step instructions Sad (and probably with some hardware/cabling ?)
Peter, if you feel like guiding me, I will take on the challenge Smile

Otherwise, I guess I will say farewell to this PCH !
October 2008 - January 2013, it served us well !
(and life expectancy of its components surely took a big hit in last couple of years as it's been playing over and over a lot of kids movies !)

I can't help you with step-by-step instructions, so you're on your own here. Blush

It surely helps if you have some basic knowledge of computer electronics, but
as I understand you're not very familiar with that, which is a pity because I
think it's sad to see a PCH go to waste. Sad

The position on the board you can place that jumper is UART0 (a serial "COM"
port just like older PC's have) only at TTL (Voltage)-levels.

Since a PC with a COM-port uses RS-232 levels, +3V~+15V represents a logic
"Space" (binary "0") and -3V~-15V a logic "Mark" (binary "1"), it needs to be
converted to the TTL-levels your PCH uses, 0V~2V represents a logical "0"
and 2V~5V is a logical "1" (binary), or you will blow up your precious player.

There are special convertor chips, like the MAX232 series, but some people
also use the USB sync-adapters from older Nokia phones.

Bottomline is that you do need to have some electronics and computer knowledge
and preferably the necessairy tools, like a soldering iron and small wire cutters.

Greetz,

Peter.
