[YAMJ] Path to USB flash drive

Path to USB flash drive
I have YAMJ set up on a USB flash drive that I have plugged into the back of my A-200. I would like to be able to update the jukebox without having to unplug it and plug it directly into my computer, ie. I'd like to be able to run the software off of my laptop and have the output go to the USB drive of my PCH. Is there a way to do this?

Note: I do not have a hard drive installed in my PCH and I'm using a Mac.

Thanks.

RE: Path to USB flash drive
Putting a database on a usb stick is not smart.
USB sticks are slow and don't live long as they have a limited write cycle...
why don't you pick up a new 500GB HDD for 45 USD and plug it in the A200.

I don't think the concept of running YAMJ USB stick in your MAC and then plug it back into the A200 will work..

PCH-A100/A210/C200/A400 500GB EXT3 HDD<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 + 6 Bowers & Wilkins speakers.
10 NTFS 2TB USB drives on 3 hubs attached to the A400, 2 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB, 2 Seagate Central NAS 4TB.

The inability to setup and configure the NMT should not be disguised as a defect of the box...

RE: Path to USB flash drive
Down the road I plan on adding an internal drive, and may get a an external drive in the interim, but for now my only option is my USB stick.

Regardless, it would still leave me with the same problem - I don't know the path to the USB drive whether it's a stick or a hard drive. If I were to use a hard drive, what would the path be to it?

Where and how you create the jukebox is irrelevant to where you run it from, this isn't NMJ you know Smile

I don't know how you do it on the mac, but you can browse to the PCH in a network browser and see what is attached to the pch from there. That will give you the name of the USB drive. If it is the only drive attached to the PCH and you never turn it off, then the name will stay the same.

Also, you could store the jukebox with the video files on the NAS.

RE: Path to USB flash drive
You're right, it does work - it's just not ideal.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to just browse to my PCH. I would imagine it's because it doesn't have an internal drive, but I really don't know the reason why. Maybe it's a Mac issue. Regardless, that's not an option which is why I need to know what the path is.

At this point I think I'm just going to have to use the NAS option. I just just don't like the idea of having to browse to it as opposed to just having it start up right from the main menu when I click on the USB drive symbol.

RE: Path to USB flash drive
So if you pull the USB stick with NMT apps (only drive on NMT) from the NMT plug it in a Mac.... how does it work then for YAMJ...Omertron?Wink

RE: Path to USB flash drive
Right now I don't have any apps, so that's not an issue. Eventually being able to install apps would be nice though Smile

RE: Path to USB flash drive
I give up.... it does not make sense to me anymore....

If the YAMJ is only about the stuff on a NAS or server why not run the database file there also?

Why do you need a USB stick?

RE: Path to USB flash drive
Like I said, it's looking like that is going to have to be my solution. However, again as I said, I don't like the fact that I'm going to have to navigate through to the NAS in order to start the jukebox, I would rather be able to start it right from the startup page by simply clicking on the USB symbol.

RE: Path to USB flash drive
No, I know how to do that using the USB. If it can be done using the network drive as we'll, that would be great - I hadn't actually thought of it as an option.

In the long run though it won't entirely solve my problem though, since eventually I do want to add at least an external drive and/or an internal drive, so eventually I'm going to need to be able to access it via the network. I've tried getting to the USB key using IP/drivename and IP:8883/drivename, but nothing has worked. It doesn't show up in Finder, I can't mount it, and I can't browse to it.

RE: Path to USB flash drive
When you have a drive then you can run NMT applications of which DNLA,FTP, SMB and NFS are what you could use to access it's filesystem over the network..
But for now no disk or no apps then no network...
