Gdsmux can output mkv straight away no need to remux with mkvmerge. However the headers it produces were not working on the PCH at all times so mkvmerge was always recommended. Now with haali part of the NMT firmware from the next stable firmware release I would imagine the need for the mkvmerge remux has gone.

Cool, thanks. So haali isn't part of the firmware yet, but will be in the next non-beta release?

RE:
(01-25-2008 02:36 PM)shroud Wrote:  After trying all four methods, I believe I have found a bug with the firmware of Popcorn as it is reproducible at will.
I have some X.264 videos that have DTS sound and used Spawn's method to convert them to AC3. These videos sound did not work for me as was later explained by Pinkpocky in his 3rd method.
So I used the third method and reencoded the audio and had a pleasant surprise that it worked and I was able to hear the sound.
When I went back to another video that was encoded using the 2nd method (not yet encoded again to the third method) the sound would not play. I went back to the same video that had worked before and try to play it again and this time it did not have sound even though it worked before.
I had to reboot my Popcorn and then all of the videos that I used the 3rd method now worked, but will stop working if I play a video inbetween using the 2nd method. If I go to another video that I haven't encoded, wmv or mkv that has a normal AC3 track those will play, so it only appears to be present if the video has been encoded.

Steps to reproduce this bug

1. Encode a MKV video with a DTS track to AC3 using Spawn's 2nd method. Try to play this video directly through your TV, this AC3 video will not play with sound.
2. Using PinkPocky's 3rd method, reencode the video to AC3. This video will play with sound if no other videos from the 2nd method have not played. If Videos using the 2nd method have attempted to be played a reboot of the popcorn is necessary.

Workarounds to the bug

If your video has been encoded using the 3rd method be sure to have a freshly rebooted Popcorn (power off) and then try to play the video.

I hope this saves someone the frustration of trying to figure out why it worked sometimes and not other times.

I experienced the same bug. If it wasn't for this post I would think that I converted the files completely wrong.

Thanks man!

input.dts in the dts2ac3 folder doesnt work

the file is named input.dts (I HAVE HIDE EXTENSIONS ENABLED)

I used TSRemux to convert TrueHD to AC3 today, was simple and did a flawless job.

dc3toac3 actually worked, but until a point early in the movie, that audio just dies and stops

DSMux after converting to ac3, the video has trouble playing and no audio either...

any ideas???

I had the same issue, with the audio dying after a few minutes. use eac3to instead of dts2ac3. That solved my problems.

RE: Converting DTS to AC3 - for those without AV amps.
When DTS2AC3 just opens and closes quickly its normally a sign that one of the required apps is not installed, such as NET framework etc.

Anyway those days of using it have gone now, I would recommend HeartWare's app which has other CMD line apps installed such as DelayCut and eac3to to get rid of any DTS dropouts. They can all be downloaded in one folder and installed v.easily.

Search for Heartware's Audio Convertor, you can also use it for AAC and Vorbis

I wrote a program that automates the process for you.

RE: Converting DTS to AC3 - for those without AV amps.
I actually tried again and i remember what happened before, once i had everything setup and selected input file, and hit convert to ac3, it just said the file does not contain a dts audio track

i tried with another file, cmd popped up and progress showed, later on i got a net framework error
and the file created gave corrupt error
