[A-110] Power needed for USB Slave?
Hi,
I just received my A-110 and I'm trying to copy loads of videos from my server onto the PCH HDD using the USB Slave function. I have ext2fsb installed on the server (running Windows Home Server) but when I connected the A-110 to the PC using the supplied USB cable the HDD (Western Digital Caviar GreenPower WD10EACS 1TB 7200rpm) did not spin up. Only when I plugged in the power supply for the PCH did the HDD spin up and I was able to mount the ext3 partition on the server. This isn't such a big deal but I hadn't seen this documented anywhere. Is this the expected behaviour? I have a 2.5" HDD in a caddy for my Istar Mini HD that works fine when connected to the server with just a USB cable. This is what I thought would happen with the A-110. |

RE: [A-110] Power needed for USB Slave?
For a HDD installed inside the PCH you are going to need the power connected when using USB. Remember youhave to power the unit and also a larger hard drive which will require more power than a USB socket can provide.
A 2.5'' HDD takes considerably less power, just enough that a USB socket can provide. Try connecting your 2.5'' caddy to the A110 to see if it works like your Istar.
