My first modification to a pch
Hello there peeps, first i would like to warn you that my english isnt all to good from time to time.

Ok the modifications to the pch then, and its not even mine. My friend bought one, he is the one that buy gadgets, and im the one with possible solutions to fix themTongue

Well, the problem started when he found out that he should put a hd in his pch(or was it my idea maybe), atleast we started to struggle with heat. so i found a old fan i had, 50x50mm 12V from an old hd cooler. I didnt want to cut up the power cable that was sent with the pch. though a power connector cable for a floppy drive, is almost the same as the power output in the pch, just have to play some with the knife to fit it.

The yellow thingy you see on the top of the fan is an old rubber glow that had a bad date with my sizors as i tried to fit it. Reason for this, maybe to take away some viberations, and noise.

some small modifications was also needed inside the pch, bend the corners out on the cooler, to fit the heads of mye screws, since they was a bit big

and reason:

now for the end resaults:

As you may see, the cables are a bit long, so think ive maybe have to shorten them some day. The small holes are there for a reason. Offcourse i could have gone for one big hole for better air flow, though i think it looks better with the small ones. If anyone is interested, the small holes are 6mm. The fan is running on 5V, found it to screaming to mutch when on 12V. Tried to watch a movie after everything was in place, and i would say that heat isnt a issue anymore. It's not winter temprature in there, but the feeling of sahara is long gone.

So what do you think about the work of a newbie like me?

Nicely done. The holes look good to me, better than one large hole anyway. That would also have attracted more dust. Bending the corners of the heatsink like that seems tricky to me, did you have to apply much force? You wouldn't want to damage the processor underneath.

RE: My first modification to a pch
hardly useed any force at all bending the corners of the heatsink, just made sure that i used one hand to hold it down, and a tong in the other to bend.

RE: My first modification to a pch
What heat?
Can you please list the before and after temperatures?
I read about these "High Temperatures" all the time but no one puts actual temperatures in writing.
I have four (4) PCH A-100's, all with 750GB HDD's, all running cool and stable.

The reason that the HeatSink is Hot, is because it is doing its' job!
