No sound from DTS-MKV movies..analog output greyed out
Hi all,
I am using pch with the philips lx8500w hometheater system on LG 50PX5RV plasma tv. Although i get sound from DD5.1 and AC3 or WMV files but there is no sound from DTS-mkv files. The DTS output only available is Digital RAW, no analog(greyed out). For first time when i played a DTS-mkv file the sound was coming from the TV speakers through HDMI cable. Now even there is no sound also from the tv let alone philips receiver while playing those DTS-mkv files. Pls let me know how to get 5.1 analog sound from those files. Thanks Siam |

RE: No sound from DTS-MKV movies..analog output greyed out
If you are using a PCH A-100 there is no way you'll get any sound from the analogue cables when playing back DTS audio.
The A-100 can ONLY transport DTS as a digital RAW signal (thus the "Analog" setting is grayed out). You need to connect your A-100 to an external receiver/decoder that can handle Digital Coax or HDMI input with DTS. An alternative is to convert the DTS track to AC3, using PopCorn MKV AudioConverter. Keld R. Hansen PopCorn MKV AudioConverter: Tutorial FAQ YAMJ Poster Maker |

RE: No sound from DTS-MKV movies..analog output greyed out
Are you using the A100 or the A110?
If its A100 then it does not have any DTS licensing fees paid and cannot decode DTS, that is why the option is disabled and greyed out. It will however pass the DTS signal to a receiver to decode. However your Phillips Home Theatre only has one input for sound and its analogue. Therefore you cannot pass through the DTS signal via analogue, only via SPDIF/coaxial. Your phillips decodes DTS but only if played from its own inbuilt DVD player. DTS cannot be heard via HDMI direct into your TV, I know as ive been using the exact same connections since last November. You have to convert the DTS audio to AC3. Even the A110 which is more expensive mainly due to the fact that it has the necessary license for DTS currently cannot downmix DTS to stereo as the code is late from Sigma to Syabas. Yes you can get sound via HDMI direct to your TV but you cannot get DTS sound. You can only get AC3, AAC (stereo decode by PCH set to anaolgue), etc. A400: SSD+SD Card(Apps), HDMI A300: USB(Apps), HDMI C200: USB(Apps), BD SH-B083L(SB01), HDMI CAT6 Wired Network: TV TX-P42G20, HP ProCurve 1400-8G, Netgear GS-608/605, Synology CS407 |

RE: No sound from DTS-MKV movies..analog output greyed out
Dear Heartware & Chris57,
Thanks for all the info & the dts to ac3 converting software(excellent). Now i can enjoy the surround sound. Now i am planning to buy a HDMI receiver to enjoy all the HD sounds including DTS from those mkv files and blu-ray players. What port(input /output) or specs to look for if i want to connect my existing LX8500w speakers and replace the builtin dvd player/receiver with that hdmi receiver? pls suggest some brand models. Little off - topic but i cannot find any help anywhere. Waiting for ur reply. Regards Siam |

RE: No sound from DTS-MKV movies..analog output greyed out
The A100 does not have HDMIv1.3 and so cannot pass through the HD audio codecs so you only need a small receiver that can decode DTS from an coaxial or HDMI source.
Any amp/receiver with a coaxial input should do and probably one of the cheapest in the range will be fine. Just ask that it can decode a DTS signal from an expernal source. A lot of people have just got a secondhand one cheap from ebay for this purpose saving money for when they update to a NMT that can passthrough HD audio codecs. If you are plannning on getting an NMT or similar that can do HD audio codecs then it may be worth investing in a more expensive amp to future protect yourself. for that look for an receiver that can do DTS-HD, DTS-MA, TrueHD. RE: No sound from DTS-MKV movies..analog output greyed out
Thanks. I would probably go for a liitle expensive one to future protect. I know that, from NMT or Blu-ray player the HDMI output goes to the (HDMI -in) receiver and in turn HDMI output of the receiver goes to the HDMI- in of the TV. But how to connect my existing philips lx8500w speakers (i.e output from the receiver to the speakers) ? Also the rear two speakers are wireless which is controlled by the built-in amp/player & the subwoofer has a built-in cord which can be connected to the existing amp/player to pass the audio signal to the speakers...the front two & the center speaker is connected with an open wire at the base of the woofer...

Hmm without seeing it I can't say. How good are the speakers? An amp with HD audio codecs and a HD player deserves a decent set of speakers aswell.
