SIZE OF 1080P and 720P
When converting a blue ray to mkv 720P or 1080P what DISK size should the finial file be

eg. it looks like that 720P mkv files are up to the size of a DVD-R.

should it then be assumed that 1080P MKV should be to a size a a DVD dual layer 9.8 gigs ?

RE: SIZE OF 1080P and 720P
There is no fixed size, individual files vary in quality. Not sure if the 'scene' has any rules or guidelines about this though.

Obviously for backup purposes it is convenient to code so the resulting file fits on, or is easily divisible onto DVDs.

I have 1080p files of up to 18 GB and 720p files of a size up to 10 GB.

Not a rule but using dvd sized chunks is very widely practiced. A kind of de facto standard.

RE: SIZE OF 1080P and 720P
Depends on what you are wanting them for, there were some 'scene' rules re sizes that were recently updated to account for the BD5 and BD9 releases that have started to appear.
There was a link to them on this forum I think they were at pastebin somewhere.

If its internal or just for you then the nearer to 1:1 the better depending on your storage limitations.
