Preparation

  • It is recommended to do a fresh boot up of the NMT when intending to update your firmware. This will help the device stay "clean" and prepare itself for the update.

  • You do NOT have to install every firmware update the latest will suffice. However make sure your NMT has 'stepped through' any firmwares that are labelled stepstone, then update to the latest firmware. New units will have firmwares that are post stepstone and so do not require the stepstone update. Secondhand or refurbished units may need the stepstone firmware, so check your firmware release dates via Setup>Maintenance. Firmware version numbering is explained HERE

  • If updating via USB place only the files on the USB stick, no folder or the update will not work.

  • When updating it is a good idea to always clear your cache before and afterwards. Do this via pressing the 'filemode' key on your remote when in Setup>Maintenance on your NMT.

  • Always stop any Community Software Installer applications before updating. Most will need to be reinstalled after every update in order to operate properly once again.

  • Reboot your NMT AFTER inserting a USB stick with the update files on. When restarted then update the firmware.

  • Think of updating as a two stage process if you need to also update the NMT Apps. You must after you have updated the firmware then go on and update the NMT Apps. If you don't then you will get an error message saying that the NMT Apps and Firmware versions do not match.

Image:warning.png DO NOT power off the unit during firmware update, as it will render your unit in-operational.

Methods

There are currently two methods supported to update the firmware and the NMT Apps: online and USB.

Online

  1. Stop all torrents from uploading and downloading;
  2. Stop file copying and all the shares. (Pull the Network cable out to be safe.);
  3. Restart the unit;
    1. by pressing Power and then Eject buttons on the Remote Control (not at the same time) wait 2 Minutes until every thing is running OK; or,
    2. by pulling out the power adapter, waiting 30-40 sec, and plugin it back in.
    When the NMT is running, wait one more minute to be safe;
  4. Plug in the Network cable.
  5. Go to Setup->Maintenance->Update and select 'Check for Firmware Update'
  6. The NMT will reboot when the update is complete.

USB

A-100 - Only the files are placed on the USB stick NO folder

If your NMT is not connected to the Internet you can still update it by downloading the update from the Internet onto a USB memory stick from any PC. Syabas release generic firmware for all NMT players that have signed up under the NMT program. To find the latest firmware for your NMT, see Firmware or visit your manufacturer's support page.

  4. Browse the USB stick by selecting the 4th media option filter and then select the HTML file called 'usbupdate.html'. You will see a blue or white screen with the firmware version. On the 200 you simply have to browse to the html file on the USB stick and press ENTER. On the 300 the player will detect the file if it is located in the root of the USB device.
  5. Press ENTER again to start the firmware update process;
  6. The NMT will reboot when the update is complete.

NMT Apps

When updating your firmware, check to ensure if you also need to update your NMT Apps, if you already have them installed.

The option to update the NMT Apps may happen automatically after the firmware is updated. However always check that you have the correct NMT Apps version for the firmware version you are using. If not or if you are simply wishing to install the NMT Apps alone at a later stage you'll need to update.

  • Best practice is to update your NMT Apps after each firmware update.
  • If you update via USB then make sure that the file 'syb8634.nmt' ('apps.nmt' on 200/300) is located in the ROOT of the USB stick. Not in any folder.
  • Navigate to SETUP > Maintenance > NMT Setup Wizard
  • Select 'Fresh' for a new installation of NMT Apps, including a format of the internal HDD, or 'Typical' for an update.
  • Choose the source of the update; either online or USB and start the installation.
  • After installing the NMT Apps the HDD, or USB in the 200/300 series, will be partitioned into 3 ext3 partitions (4 in the C series as an additional partition for BD is required). These partitions are for the NMT Apps, Swop Space, & Storage. The Storage partition will have Video, Downloads, Photo and other folders created in it.

Additional 200/300 Series Information

  • With the introduction of the NMT Apps USB install you may now have to specify which is your Media Drive.
  • This drive is the one which you wish to use for your 'share' and also where your files are located. It is now possible to easily install the NMT Apps to USB and then select your HDD as the Media Drive. This creates a Download and other folders and will be the default location for your downloads and files that you wish to playback. If you do not have any HDD fitted and use a server then you can simply install the NMT Apps to USB alone and if no other Media Drive device is detected then the USB stick will be your 'share'.

General Tips/Information

  • Performing the installation/update process may take up to 10 mins, far longer if you are also formatting a large HDD. Please leave your device untouched during this time. The device will stop at certain points, do not be alarmed it will be a certain point in the update procedure requiring preparation or services being shutdown etc.
  • If you run into problems, try the USB installation method with a fresh download of the firmware package from the website.
  • Make sure you do NOT have any files within a folder on the USB stick if you are using that method to update.
  • To downgrade firmware you must use USB. Download and place the firmware, and if required NMT Apps, onto the root of a USB stick and follow the usual procedure.
