- You can rate your media and share your ratings with other users.
First time use
- Take time to visit the PopCorn Hour website and the NMJ section.
- Read the Manual
- When running the NMJ for the first time it will prompt for scanning of media files on your storage device/share in order to build the user interface with posters. Press the Red coloured key on your remote control to invoke it the NMJ UI and see that message. If you do not see the message then the NMT is having trouble writing to the location, check for example if you are scanning a NAS share that you have allowed both write and read access.
- Depending upon the amount of files in your media library, the scan may take several hours to complete. You need an Internet connection to get the posters and information to your NMT.
- Please refer to this Sticky and this Sticky on the NMT Owners Forum. There is a whole forum NMJ Section and additionally a NMJ Guides section.
- If you use YAMJ then it is possible to use software on your PC to adapt your YAMJ output for NMJ. Simply follow the instructions located HERE for Windows & Mac users.
How to use NMJ
NMJ Remote Control Commands
- You are actually in Flash an entirely different system than the usual UI. Some of the remote control commands are very similar and some are new.
- Good news is that the first time you use NMJ you are shown a series of screens with the remote control commands and some basic instructions. You can skip backwards and forwards through the help screens using the < and > button via your direction arrows on the D-pad. The buttons to skip are located bottom left of the help screens. Here's the first help screen:-
- The remote control buttons used are initially the coloured buttons when you first enter your NMJ location, unless you have Auto-Start ON in Menu Settings in which case the NMJ UI will launch. Thereafter it is a case of using the Angle button to change/select different view modes and the arrow keys to move between files and options once you have selected a file.
- The Manual explains more commands and features.
Add-ons and extras
The user community has already developed several tools to manage and control the media information collected in the NMJ database, for instance the NMJToolbox by forum member Rom.
Browse the NMT Forum - NMJ section for more details.
How-To Launch NMJ Automatically
- It is possible to Auto Launch NMJ when entering the location of your NMJ database, simply use the Auto-Start option in the NMJ Menu section.
- It is possible thanks to forum member Accident to launch any of the NMJ sections automatically. All NMT's will load a index.htm file automatically if one is present in the location.
Simply download this file (Nmjlaunch.zip) and unrar.
- For each drive or network share you want an NMJ jukebox to start on its own, unzip the file for what section of NMJ to load and rename it to index.htm (if needed).
- The file must be in the root folder, this will be the same share/folder where the nmj_database folder is located.
The rar file contains the following 4 files:-
- index.htm - launches the moviewall
- apps.htm - apps
- photo.htm - photos
- music.htm - music
MAKE SURE YOU RENAME apps.htm, photo.htm and music.htm to index.htm for it to work.
Remember that on boot the NMT will default to the last successfully accessed share/location. So if this is the same location as NMJ then it will autoload on boot as well as on entry to the share/location.
Known limitations
This applies for the first release, 8th of November 2010.
NMJ is only supported for HD TV, so the lowest resolution has to be 720p. If you have an old CRT you can also get it working, but you need to set your Resolution to 720p at the NMT Setup. The NMT will still output from S-Video or Composite to your CRT and will scale it down.
The NMJ requires read and write permissions to the media source volume, on a hard disk drive, Samba- or NFS Share.
The movie information is only collected from IMDB.com. At present no other sources are used. (Remember that you can use other tools to update the database, or edit it by own means.)
The scanning time may take several hours if there are many files present to index. Make sure you exclude directories not intended for scanning to cut down the time.
The NMJ is based on Adobe Flash lite technology, therefore it is not available on the older 100-series NMT's.
